Despite being one of Ireland’s most respected journalists and broadcasters, Miriam O’Callaghan had no aspirations to work in the media when she embarked on a career in law at the age of 16. This week Miriam discusses starting out on Newsnight and This is Your Life under the glare of 20 million viewers (7:00).
Miriam talks about feelings of guilt (26:00) and despite having received death threats she explains why she still refuses to block those who are abusive to her on social media (34:00). Having had an incredibly fruitful personal and professional life Miriam is in a great position to give her thoughts on the importance of having the right partner (51:00) and to discuss where she believes happiness really comes from (1:06:00). From her explanation of why she believes makeover shows can be abusive to women (1:04:00) to where she draws the line on her fame and salary in Ireland (49:00) this interview is truly a highlight of the series.
