Eimear Considine: Pushing The Boundaries
Sunday May 02, 2021
Sunday May 02, 2021
A lot of the time when we struggle with a sport early in our lives we are inclined to drop it and move on. Eimear Considine didn’t quit when general consensus was her sister was the more athletic. Jarlath sits down with the Irish rugby and camogie star to talk about why that struggle has paved the way for her to jump into this new life and thrive at the international level. In 2018 Eimear made the unusual choice to step away from her sports when it all felt like too much. She later realised that the sensation she was experiencing was in fact, burnout. A time to travel the world and consider whether professional life down under might be the place for her produced some revelations that she still quotes today. On top of all this Eimear is an Irish and PE teacher in Dublin, Jarlath asks her about the way the language is now taught and the change in dynamic now that PE is an exam subject. There’s even more from this Irish sports star when you subscribe to us on Patreon...

Mark Horgan On The Making Of "Where Is George Gibney?"
Sunday Feb 28, 2021
Sunday Feb 28, 2021
Mark Horgan joins Jarlath for an in depth discussion about the production and impact of his global hit podcast series, “Where Is George Gibney?”. We hear of Mark’s first awareness of the case and how eve the was confused as to whether Gibney was imprisoned for the initial sexual abuse charges against him. Jarlath digs into the exact judicial loophole that allowed Gibney to leave the country and evade. We get an inside look into Mark’s initial hesitancy to pursue the project out of concern for the victims, the overarching aim to tell their stories and his own views on how we sometimes try to explain away pure evil in others.
The victims and their courage is a central focus of the discussion and Jarlath asks Mark about the significance of Gary O’Toole in the process. Later in the conversation we hear about the moment Mark confronted Gibney face to face and how Florida gun laws had him and Ciaran Cassidy on edge at all times. Now that Mark has returned to his old stomping ground with the Second Captains team and the dust has somewhat settled, there is time to reflect on what just happened. What does a new Garda investigation into Gibney mean? What will Mark do next and would ever consider leaving the team and doing it by himself?
