Victoria Smurfit is currently starring as Cruella De Vil in ABC’s ‘Once Upon a Time.’ While Irish audiences first came to know Victoria for her role in ‘Ballykissangel’, her work on NBC’s ‘Dracula’ brought her to settle in LA. This week she joined Jarlath for a conversation from her home in Santa Monica via Skype.
Victoria opens up about her battle with confidence in the early stages of her career (9:00) and that the feeling of being "back at square one" is still a regular occurrence for her (29:00). Victoria speaks frankly about working with A list actors who won’t engage with others on set (35:00), the difficulty she found in adjusting her role in 'Bulletproof Monk' from comedic to serious (36:00) and why going through dark times personally worked to her advantage while preparing for the Cruella De Vil role (48:00).
As well as telling the shocking story of being deliberately locked in a theatre so she could not attend an audition for ‘Michael Collins’ (24:00), Victoria gives a hilarious account of how she recently took the law into her own hands when the police proved unhelpful (44:00).
